Butler’s Orchard is a 5-acre farm park located in Germantown, Maryland. They offer a variety of crops to be picked by visitors on a seasonal basis! Currently, not only can you pick your own apples, but you can also pick raspberries, pumpkins, herbs, flowers, and tomatoes. Although picking your own apples can be very fun, you can also stop by their Farmers Market. Here, they sell a variety of apples like Premier Honey Crisp, Autumn Crisp, Winesap, and more. Taste their delicious apple cider, or pick up other fresh produce while you’re there. Additionally, check out their apple recipes to continue the fun when you get home. Bake a Country Apple Pie or Apple Butter Cookies with your findings!
Larriland Farm
Larriland Farm, located in Western Howard County, Maryland, grows fresh fruits and vegetables available for picking. A little over an hour drive from your Adams Crossing apartment, be sure to visit their website before your visit to discover what fruits are available. Currently, Golden Delicious, Empire, Sun Crisp, Cameo, and Mutsu are all available for picking. Later in October, Ida Red, Stayman, Fuji, Granny Smith, and more will be ready to pick.
In addition to apple picking, they host a variety of fun fall activities! With hayrides and food trucks on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as The Boo Barn and Straw Maze, there are plenty of fall festivities to join in on. Furthermore, visit the Red Barn Farm Market to pick up apples and other produce like cheeses, sweet potatoes, squash, and more.
Great Country Farms
A little bit further but well worth the drive, Great Country Farms is about an hour and a half from Adam’s Crossing in Bluemont Virginia. They are a pick your own fruit farm open daily from 9am to 6pm. Not only can you pick apples, but you can also find squashes, pumpkins, potatoes, and gourds! Enjoy a wagon ride out to the U-Pick fields and pick some delicious fresh fruit and vegetables. In addition to picking it yourself, you can stop by the farmers market to enjoy Cider Donuts, in-season produce, local meats, and more! Furthermore, make a day out of it and eat at the Roosteraunt. With pizzas, wraps, salads and more, you’ll never want to leave the fun-filled Great Country Farms.
