Welcome to Autumn in Waldorf — a truly breathtaking time of year! Don’t let the leaves change, drift to the ground, and be raked away at Adam’s Crossing without crossing off each item on this festive fall checklist.
Middleton’s Cedar Hill Farm also offers good old fashioned hayrides which — did I mention? — transports you to and from the pumpkin patch.
Apple pie, apple strudel, applesauce, apple dumplings, apple cobbler. Are you hungry yet? Few activities rival apple picking on the festi-meter. While Waldorf doesn’t have it’s own pick-your-own apple orchard, there are many within driving distance.
Beautiful trees covered in brilliantly colored leaves surround Adam’s Crossing. After the colorful pieces of parchment float to the ground, grab a cheap rake from Walmart, collect them into a massive pile — and then jump!
Make your own Halloween costume
Each year you dream up a new elaborate costume for Halloween, but somehow on the 31st you always end up just putting on your kitty ear headband and drawing whiskers on your cheeks with an old eyeliner pencil. Not this time! Start planning early, and make sure you have all the supplies ahead of time to make your costume come to life.
Hike through the fall foliage
Cooler temperatures and colorful leaves make for perfect hiking conditions. Read our previous article Active Living at Adam’s Crossing: Blaze the Trails for hiking tips around Waldorf.
Tour a haunted house
A little screaming never hurt anyone! Visit Vampire Manor for some spooky fun. Charles County Dive Rescue owns and operates Vampire Manor, and all proceeds benefit CCDR (Company 13), Charles County Fire Department, and drama programs at local high schools.
Get lost in a corn maze
For the last item on this festive fall checklist, head back to Middleton’s Cedar Hill Farm for the corn maze. The winding trail covers eight acres and stretches over a mile long. Bring your smartphone to scan QR codes for hints along the way at various checkpoints.
