Wheatley Lake

Also known as Gilbert Run, Wheatley Lake is a 75-acre body of water in Charles County. There is a wide variety of fish that inhabit that lake, including largemouth bass, bluegill, and redear sunfish. Additionally, it also carries black crappie, channel catfish, and seasonally stocked rainbow trout. It’s important to realize that this lake has been designated a Catch and Release Bass Fishing Area. Although it’s about an hour trip from Waldorf, it’s worth it for these views! With various fishing areas including a Fishing Pier, fishing is allowed 24 hours a day. However, if you are planning on night fishing you will need a night fishing pass.
