Christmas is one week away! Have you participated in all of your favorite traditions? We’ve put together a holiday checklist of festive activities to make sure you live this Christmas season to the fullest. Enjoy!
Bake cookies
Few activities feel as festive a baking and decorating Christmas cookies. You can make the cookies from scratch, or buy the Pillsbury sugar cookie dough and icing. Just don’t forget the sprinkles!
Go on a tacky light tour
Organize a group of neighbors to drive around Waldorf looking at the Christmas lights. You can even bring those cookies you baked along as a snack with thermoses of hot chocolate.
Watch Christmas movies
Get in the Christmas spirit by watching classic Christmas movies. We love Charlie Brown’s Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, Elf, and White Christmas, but cheesy Hallmark movies are always good choices too.
Make a gingerbread house
Again, you can make your gingerbread house from scratch, or buy one of those handy kits. The real challenge will be not eating all of the ingredients before the house can be constructed!
Send Christmas cards
In our digitally-inclined world, physical Christmas cards show incredible thoughtfulness and intentionality. Buy a box of cards, write a little personalized note in each, and send them to friends and family — guaranteed to end up on Grandma’s refrigerator.
Go ice skating
Driving up to the Rockefeller Center to go ice skating might not be an option for you, but fortunately we have ice skating options right here in Waldorf, MD at the Capital Clubhouse Recreation Center. Admission for a 90 minute skating session is $8 and skate rental is $4. Ice skating is also a great way to burn off some of those cookie calories!
Wrap presents
Tossing the sweater you bought your dad into a bag with some tissue paper is easy, but actually taking the time to box your gifts, wrap them in festive paper, and add shiny ribbons and bow shows that you went above and beyond.
Call loved ones you won’t get to see
With childhood and college friends scattered across the country and family living out of town, seeing all of your loved ones during the holiday season is a bit of stretch. But fortunately they’re just a phone call or FaceTime away. This small and easy gesture will let them know that you care.
Go see a Christmas play
Similar to watching Christmas movies but on a greater scale, consider attending a Christmas play. A few favorites are the Nutcracker Ballet, A Christmas Carol, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
How many of these activities can you check off of this holiday checklist before Christmas? Better get celebrating!
