If you’ve thought about moving to Waldorf, Maryland, but are still on the fence, below are four great things about Waldorf that we wanted to share to help you make up your mind.

If you aren’t familiar with Waldorf, it’s an unincorporated community of about 70,000 residents in Southern Maryland just 23 miles from Washington, D.C. Charles County, where Waldorf is located, was named one of the Top 100 Places to Live by CNN Money in 2012 because of its history, 4,000 acres of open space, many miles of shoreline, its parks, and its close proximity to the nation’s capital.

4 Reasons Moving to Waldorf Is a Great Idea!

1- Lots of Parks for Enjoying the Great Outdoors

Waldorf is home to several community parks, as well as the Capital Clubhouse, a large 24/7 indoor sports complex with an ice rink. But when you live in Waldorf, you’ll also have access to all the great parks in Charles County. These parks have a total of 50 miles of trails for hiking and biking, playgrounds, a skatepark, sports complexes, five boating-access facilities, and a regionally-acclaimed golf course. Charles County is also home to the 3,510-acre Cedarville State Forest. This state park features trails, campsites, a pond for fishing, picnic, recreation areas, and more.

2- Terrific Places to Shop and Dine

If shopping is your passion, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from when moving to Waldorf. There are two large malls in the area, the open-air Shops at Waldorf Center and the enclosed St. Charles Towne Center. There are also numerous shopping centers with options that range from your favorite retail stores to unique upscale boutiques and mom-and-pop shops. You’ll also find just about any kind of cuisine you’re looking for with hundreds of fine dining, ethnic, casual, and fast-food restaurants to choose from. Charles County is also home to some terrific hotels for when you have visitors in town.

3- Close Proximity to Places You Want to Go

Not only is Waldorf only a half-hour’s drive from D.C., but it’s also a short drive away from Baltimore and Richmond, Virginia via I-95. Both the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean are within a few hours’ drive as well.

4- Public Transportation

There are some good options for getting around the community and to and from Waldorf besides walking or driving a car. Charles County has its own bus system called Van-Go, which connects with the bus system in neighboring St. Mary’s County. Waldorf also has seven park-and-ride locations for commuters who want to use the MTA Maryland transit system to get to D.C., Baltimore, or Northern Virginia.
